you might not think it when hearing it, but this was actually the very first song i made after anhedonia released. and i don't mean 4-5 months afterwards, i mean more like 8 days. i have no idea how the hell i managed to make a song so interesting and jarringly different from the previous project (especially when the songs i subsequently attempted to write/record were pretty much garbage), but yeah. i whipped the instrumental of this song up in a good couple days and then i just let it sit for around 7 months when i finally brought it to the guys with some political-esque lyrics and said hey check this out. i don't remember if they were super into it at first, but it has definitely grown on them. around the last week of working on the actual album, i gave up trying to sing this one and instead asked matt to and he fucking knocked it out of the park. i'm very glad i did that. tuning is CGDGBbC, by the way. i think i invented this tuning.

oh, ALSO, there originally was no solo at the end. but matt had an admittedly genius idea and i took it and messed with it and the song is 200% better for it. so thanks matt!

ALSO ALSO, that solo was added probably just a week before we mastered it. which makes this song the first and last song we worked on for this album. very interesting.

i love this song and i was really happy that i got to sing it. it has this really nice groove and i added some new vocal ideas that ended up complimenting the song really well.

lemme start by saying how much i love matt's voice on this. his lead vocals mixed with ben's nice backing vocals create an atmosphere that i think sums up this album pretty perfectly. flowy instrumentals ended up working well around ben and matt's voices and i couldn't have been happier with how it turned out.
