Ode to Myself

from We Are Unhappy Now by Harborer

about

this is a song that i kinda improvised when trying to fuck around with my 12 string and i found a cool chord progression. i was feeling kinda sad so i wrote a song to myself trying to be happy. i'm still pretty sad so it didnt work but i do like the song.

i recorded this 3 times but i used the first take because it was R A W and had a bunch of imperfections that i don't love but they sound less robotic than the other takes.

lyrics

i don’t know why i invest myself into these petty things
i can’t really talk to people, so i extend my words on top of strings
so don’t ask me questions, you won’t get a good answer
and don’t answer either, my trust is gone for the winter

i don’t know why i expected anything
i guess i gotta work on whatever “anything” is

i don’t know why you sit in that room struggling to write
all that looking at that screen is what killed your eyesight
and now you’re writing meta songs under mediocre chord progressions
you just need to stop worrying about the first impressions

so don’t kid yourself, it’ll be over in no time
but don’t get rid of yourself, there’s something in store for you someday

about 3 weeks ago you got your first comment section
you’re recording a new video again under your own direction
imagine what you could do if you had at least a small crew
but you’re too stubborn for that, no one else would know how to

you’ve gotta get out of this cage you’ve made inside your mind
you’ve gotta get out of that room and leave your sorrows behind
