this is the first song i ever wrote. a lot of inspirations helped me such as Richard Dawson, Fleet Foxes, and The Microphones. i realized that i enjoyed music that created a cinematic feel. music that builds into a climax is always so satisfying to me and i wanted to capture that feeling with this song. i wrote it in about 25 minutes. there is an interesting contrast with it that even though it has a lot of beautiful and warm chords, the lyrical content involves a man physically and emotionally destroying himself over a girl that wants nothing to do with him.

being the first song that i heard from matt's brain, broken hands completely blew me away. originally being an acoustic demo that matt played for us, it was hard for me to imagine that the song could get any better once we added more instruments. i was especially skeptical about the drums being added to the song, even though ben was really adamant about adding them. when i first heard the song with all of the instruments, including drums, i was blown away. i remember being so excited when i first heard this and being genuinely inspired for the first time in months.

i remember bryce and matt were both very iffy about me putting more instruments on this thing. so i did it and it turns out it worked out pretty alright, at least we think so.
